Hiring Now: S&P Data Creating Jobs in New Brunswick
New Brunswick has long been recognized as a North American leader in the customer service industry. Opportunities NB (ONB) continues to build on that success by creating a robust business services sector offering New Brunswickers excellent career opportunities.
Established in 2004, S&P Data is a privately held Canadian entrepreneurial outsource provider led by a team of successful CRM software and contact centre operators. The company provides custom engagement and technology solutions, streamlining and enhancing their clients’ care and revenue processes.
As it continues to grow in 2018, S&P Data has chosen a turnkey space in Saint John as the location for its newest business services centre. S&P Data is occupying space at Loch Lomond Place, the former location of a Sears Canada business services centre.
Little time has been wasted by S&P Data in recruiting workers. It has hosted five job fairs since January and a sixth event is scheduled for Wednesday, April 4th from 10am to 4pm. The company aims to create 454 full-time jobs and states 160 employees have been hired as of March 19.
ONB spoke to Brian Cato, President of Canadian Operations for S&P Data, to learn why New Brunswick, in particular, Saint John was chosen.
ONB: What is being announced and what does it mean for S&P?
Cato: We are announcing the official grand opening of S&P Data’s office in Saint John. S&P Data wants to celebrate the opening of this office as part of its continued growth and success in the Canadian market. We will be looking to hire aggressively and employ upwards of 300 people over the next 12-24 months and continue to grow from there.
[To support the creation of up to 454 full-time positions, S&P is eligible for an investment of up to $3 million from ONB in the form of a payroll rebate over the next five years.]
What were the key factors that led to S&P choosing New Brunswick?
We undertake an extensive due diligence process when looking for new markets as part of our expansion plans, looking at key attributes of each market and making a determination on the viability of the chosen cities to support our business. What drove S&P to New Brunswick was the level of quality, educated people that reside in Saint John and the surrounding area, along with the willingness of government to invest in us to help offset our startup costs.
What can you tell us about the recruitment success the company has seen in Saint John thus far?
So far our recruitment efforts have been fantastic. We have had great support from the ONB Workforce Team and affiliate partners, with job fairs and marketing initiatives to help drive the application and interview process. We are slightly ahead of our recruiting goals but still have some aggressive hiring plans and timelines ahead of us to achieve.
Can you comment further on the relationship between S&P and ONB?
The relationship is a true partnership, ONB has been very accessible, available and flexible to our needs and requests; they have come to the table with both human and financial resources. ONB support continues today as required and they have been a major contributor to our initial success in New Brunswick.
For anyone considering applying for a position in Saint John, can you describe the work environment?
S&P Data agents are given a very extensive, informative client training program. An agent would then handle customer care calls on behalf of our clients; they will have access to all necessary applications and tools needed to support them in their jobs. Agents also receive daily coaching and management support to help them achieve their goals. We strive to provide a great work environment that will include a games room and internet café.
